Words...
BRIEF :
Its quite difficult to think of words for the A&E waiting area. The handling of this needs to be very sensitive .....I am merely collecting ideas for words at the moment ....perhaps just key words or short phrases ?
Perhaps words about the city or gardens or seasons rather than care ? words could blend with shapes in the artwork so you discover them, better that they do not stand out - it needs to be subtle. words could curve around shapes, typography could be useful, or words be used in a graphic format ?......
> it would be preferable visually to blend the words into the artwork but there are also issues with readability and disability/blind awareness....
- Light, bright (aqua) tone colours to give a feeling of space, openness and uplift and work with indoor lighting.
- Elements of the design to reflect partly, but not wholly, the city of Liverpool.
- A semi abstract concept which includes text and quotes (copyright allowable)
- Provide a reflection of the many different cultures that use this space, drawn from the Yemani, Somali, Polish, English and Chinese communities.
- There are a wide range of users of A&E services from all walks of life . Text should be subtle and not dominate the artwork, which should mainly be comprised of colour and imagery and a sense of space.

Quotes ?
“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched, they must be felt with the heart"
- Helen Keller 1880 - 1968
I like the quotes just below and Helen Keller might be suitable as she was a campaigner for disability rights - and maybe out of copyright ?

I like this too - but would have to check copyright and it could be/is possibly too invasive on people depending on their mood....
“Dare to Be
When a new day begins, dare to smile gratefully.
When there is darkness, dare to be the first to shine a light.
When there is injustice, dare to be the first to condemn it.
When something seems difficult, dare to do it anyway.
When life seems to beat you down, dare to fight back.
When there seems to be no hope, dare to find some.
When you’re feeling tired, dare to keep going.
When times are tough, dare to be tougher.
When love hurts you, dare to love again.
When someone is hurting, dare to help them heal.
When another is lost, dare to help them find the way.
When a friend falls, dare to be the first to extend a hand.
When you cross paths with another, dare to make them smile.
When you feel great, dare to help someone else feel great too.
When the day has ended, dare to feel as you’ve done your best.
Dare to be the best you can –
At all times, Dare to be!”
Steve Maraboli, Life, the Truth, and Being Free > would need to check copyright on this one.
A Jewish song poem suggested by a friend :
We are loved by unending love.
We are embraced by arms that find us even when we are hidden from ourselves.
We are touched by fingers that soothe us.
Even when we are too proud for soothing.
We are counseled by voices that guide us even when we are too embittered to hear.
We are loved by an unending love.
We are supported by hands that uplift us even in the midst of a fall.
We are urged on by eyes that meet us even when we are too weak for meeting.
We are loved by an unending love.
Embraced, touched, soothed, and Counseled….
Ours are the arms, the fingers, the voices; Ours are the hands, the eyes, the smiles;
We are loved by unending love.

SLOGAN for city of culture 2008 > Liverpool "WORLD IN ONE CITY"
- I like this as it is inclusive of all groups
- I like this as it is inclusive of all groups
There is a great use of text in the main entrance and foyer of the Central Library.
It dominates the area but is really interesting and catches peoples attention.....
I wouldn't want to use text so prominently but wondering if the sections of the library words might have some context to the work ? would have to check copyright.....

Quotes about Liverpool from wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liverpool
- "Liverpoole is one of the wonders of Britain... In a word, there is no town in England, London excepted, that can equal [it] for the fineness of the streets, and the beauty of the buildings." Daniel Defoe – A tour thro' the Whole Island of Great Britain, 1721–26
- "[O]ne of the neatest, best towns I have seen in England." – John Wesley. Journal, 1755
- "That immense City which stands like another Venice upon the water...where there are riches overflowing and every thing which can delight a man who wishes to see the prosperity of a great community and a great empire... This quondam village, now fit to be the proud capital of any empire in the world, has started up like an enchanted palace even in the memory of living men." Thomas Erskine, 1st Baron Erskine, 1791
- "I have heard of the greatness of Liverpool but the reality far surpasses my expectation" – Prince Albert, speech, 1846
- "Liverpool…has become a wonder of the world. It is the New York of Europe, a world city rather than merely British provincial." – Illustrated London News, 15 May 1886
- "Liverpool is the 'pool of life' " – C.G. Jung, Memories, Dreams, Reflections, 1928
- "...if Liverpool can get into top gear again there is no limit to the city's potential. The scale and resilience of the buildings and people is amazing – it is a world city, far more so than London and Manchester. It doesn't feel like anywhere else in Lancashire: comparisons always end up overseas – Dublin, or Boston, or Hamburg. The city is tremendous, and so, right up to the First World War, were the abilities of the architects who built over it…… The center is humane and convenient to walk around in, but never loses its scale. And, in spite of the bombings and the carelessness, it is still full of superb buildings. Fifty years ago it must have outdone anything in England." – Ian Nairn, Britain's Changing Towns, 1967
